At Marin Prep, community service is part of our program. Each year, students in kindergarten through older grades participate in, contribute to, and learn about service organizations throughout the Bay Area. Our mission in developing these relationships is to teach about empathy and caring, and to convey the message that as volunteers, we have a lot to offer, but we also have a lot to learn. Projects include traditional service, such as holiday collections for local food banks. Some projects, such as the recent drive to replace computers at a local school following an episode of vandalism, come from the students themselves. We believe that age-appropriate community service at school, especially when mirrored and supported at home, is a powerful and lasting message.
