Esta Semana en Primer Grado/This Week in First Grade

febrero 6-febrero 10

Our five new words/nuevas palabras this week are: the, nice, man, well, few.  The class will use these words all week in various games, writing, and reading.  During Word Work/Trabajo de Palabras, the students will also do weekly dictation/dictado as they practice their listening and recording skills.  In mathematicas/matemáticas the class will be using their graphing and data collection skills to collect information from the entire school.  We will be using the information that they collect to create line plots so that each student can analyze the information and make statements about students at our school.  During writing time your child will be learning more about the Important Person/Persona Importante they are researching.  After they collect all of the facts about their person we will begin putting the books together and doing the illustrations.

Bringing the lessons home this week:

Each night please assist your child with their assigned homework/tarea, as well as setting aside some time for quiet reading. Their books/libros will be coming home Monday/lunes and will be expected back in class on Friday/viernes. Homework this week will be a multiple night project of creating valentines and writing nice sentences for each of their classmates. Please spend time with your child talking about each of their classmates and thinking about the wonderful ways that they appreciate each other. Be sure that each of your child’s 12 classmates are included in this project, and that your child does the handwriting themselves. Example sentences are: “I like that you are a good friend.” “You are kind to me when I get hurt.” “At recess you are fun to play games with.” Feel free to be as creative as your child wishes with this project! If you would like supplies or extra support don’t hesitate to ask.
